ECAASU 2011
I’m heading to UMASS Amherst in February for the East Coast Asian American Student Union [ECAASU]. For those who’ve never heard of this, it’s a conference held at a different college campus annually that strives to inspire, educate, and empower those interested in Asian American issues. You might be wondering why I’m attending, especially since it’s not even a Christian conference (*gasp*). Here are some reasons why I’m going:
* To bring Queens College Epic Movement students to meet students of UMASS Amherst’s Epic Movement: As two newly formed Epic Movements, I think it would be really encouraging for us to hear about how things are going for them and to learn from them. They have a heart to bless students who are coming from all across the East Coast for ECAASU, and I hope QC Epic can help in some way to support them in this!
* To bring Queens College Chinese Student Association (CSA) students to hang out with Queens College Epic Movement at ECAASU: One of my biggest regrets of college was that I really didn’t spend quality time with people outside my campus fellowship. Hopefully, having a shared experience like attending a conference together will help our groups develop genuine friendships (and prevent us from being too comfortable in our Christian bubble). Plus, I’m sure ECAASU will be a huge benefit for QC’s CSA!
* To enjoy the conference itself (of course!): I’m overwhelmed by the number of really interesting workshop topics available: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food (featuring THE Jennifer 8. Lee!), Macho Like Me: One-woman show & Discussion (the true account of a woman’s six-month journey living life as a man), and BREAKDANCING 101 (my dream come true?!). I think I’m going to have trouble choosing which one to attend…
Won’t you consider joining me? Check out www.ecaasu2011.org for more info. Oh, and its only $60 if you register by Jan 31st, and before Feb 4th, its $65!
On a somewhat embarrassing note, I really wish I attended ECAASU when it was hosted by my college back in my junior year, especially when it was being directed by one of my closest friends (sorry Noelle!). But like I mentioned before, I was really living in a bubble…but you don’t have to make my mistakes! Hope you can join me ![]()
